This new page collects song performances from regular Dylan albums on VHS video and DVD included in films in the1990s (I'm ignoring any editing or talking over them). I would be grateful for any additional information on these items and other material to place here. Films are listed by date of original appearance (in theatres or on TV), not when the VHS video or DVD came out, often some years later. For the audio soundtrack albums on which these songs often also appear, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations).
For a full Dylan filmography, see "Expecting Rain" or "TV Talkin'" . For informed discussion of all Bob's screen appearances, see C.P. Lee's well-received book "Like A Bullet Of Light ".
All scans that aren't credited are from my own collection or www.amazon.com.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

This Oscar-winning film includes All Along The Watchtower from John
Wesley Harding. There are two soundtrack albums, one of which contains
the film score only, the other of which has a selection of songs from the
film, but not the Dylan song! Thanks to Jack from Canada for the scans of the 2000 US "Awards Edition" and the 2007 Canadian double feature twin-pack with "The Virgin Suicides", which has no Dylan content. Thanks to Moise Potié for scans of the 2002 Japanese release. |

Season 1 - UK DVD release - picture from www.amazon.com |
I previously misreported that one episode in this series contains Gotta Serve Somebody, the album
track from Slow Train Coming. In fact it was episode 24 from Season
2, for the DVD/VHS boxed set The Sopranos - The Complete Second Season
see VHS & DVD: Films with
Dylan Album Tracks - 2000s Part 1. This set has no Dylan content. The first Sopranos soundtrack album in 1999 did contain this song, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations). The third Sopranos soundtrack album includes an exclusive cover by Bob Dylan, Return To Me, see 2001. For the DVD/VHS boxed set The Sopranos - The Complete Third Season, containing the episode in which that song appears, see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 1. Thanks to Jack from Canada for information. |

This film stars Diane Lane and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn in "Lord Of The

Bringing It All Back Home, but the song
is not on the Sire film soundtrack album. There appears to be no UK DVD release. Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for information and to Jack from Canada for scans of the Canadian release. |

This film starring Billy Crudup and Samantha Morton contains the rarity (Is Anybody
Going To) San Antone by Doug Sahm and Band with Bob as sidesman - for
full details see VHS & DVD 1990s Part 2.
For the original release of this track on the Atlantic album Doug Sahm & Band, see
1972. The film also includes the
instrumental Bunkhouse Theme from Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid.
For the soundtrack album, which contains the Sahm track only, see 2000. |
"Dharma & Greg" - episode of the 1997-2002 US ABC TV comedy series first broadcast in the USA, 12 Oct 1999:

Play, Lady, Play - actually
two unnamed instrumentals played during the episode of the US ABC TV show
with this title first broadcast 12 Oct 1999 (Season 3, Episode 4). As this
is a rarity, full details are in VHS & DVD 1990s Part 2. Bob appears with a band including T-Bone Burnett, with Dharma (Jenna Elfman) playing drums. Season 3 of the series has not yet appeared officially on DVD. (It is available on DVD as an unauthorised release from a company based in the Philippines, but I suspect the episodes have been illegally copied from VHS recordings.) Thanks to Jack from Canada for reminding me of this show and to Paul S. Levine for news of the 20th Century Fox US Seasons 1 and 2 DVD releases. |
