This new page collects song performances from regular Dylan albums on VHS video and DVD included in films and TV series in 2000-04 (I'm ignoring any editing or talking over them). I would be grateful for any additional information on these items and other material to place here. Films are listed by date of original appearance (in theatres or on TV), not when the VHS video or DVD came out, often some years later. For the audio soundtrack albums on which these songs often also appear, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations) 2000s. For films from this period with Dylan rarities, see VHS & DVD.

For a full Dylan filmography, see "Expecting Rain" or "TV Talkin'" . For informed discussion of all Bob's screen appearances, see C.P. Lee's well-received book "Like A Bullet Of Light ".

Any scans that aren't credited are from my own collection or www.amazon.com.

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Fight the much-hated artificial and anti-consumer DVD Region system by making your PC DVD drive and software or your stand-alone DVD player region-free! For more information, see Inmatrix . Everyone can play all CDs worldwide, and it should be the same for DVDs! Also see DVD Codes .

Some studios are fortunately realising that they can maximise sales of individual DVD releases by making them region-free instead of having to manufacture multiple region-specific copies- click on the picture on the right to see the text.

Because this film contains a Dylan rarity, full details are in VHS & DVD 2000s Part 1. The full version of Things Have Changed played over the closing credits ceased to be a rarity after being included in The Essential Bob Dylan. but the film also contains an edited version played over the opening credits, which is not available elsewhere.

This Norman Jewison film starring Denzel Washington is about jailed boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. Bob's contribution is Hurricane, the album version from Desire. A "rap" version of the song is also performed by Black Thought, Common and Mos Def. The film also includes footage of Bob in concert with the Rolling Thunder Revue, probably from Renaldo And Clara, see VHS & DVD 1970s.

For the 2000 audio soundtrack album, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations) 2000.

R-0446-2 Most Of The Time - this version was reportedly remixed from the Oh Mercy version, but has now been superseded by the hybrid SA-CD release

Harold Lepidus informs me the VHS/DVD release of the film also contains Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You, the regular album version from Nashville Skyline.

The Canadian release was made in the USA. The US 2DVD set includes "Grosse Pointe Blank", which has no Dylan content. The Australian release is undated but may have been released around 2012.

This film directed by David A Stewart from the Eurythmics features sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton of the UK girl group All Saints. Bob's contribution is Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, 4th Time Around and One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) from Blonde On Blonde, plus Love Minus Zero/No Limit from Bringing It All Back Home. Despite this heavy Dylan presence there are no Dylan songs on the Island Records film soundtrack album.

The Dylan contribution is 4th Time Around, the live version from The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Live 1966, The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert. Another Dylan song intended for inclusion was Bob's cover of Willie Nelson's Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground (R-0156), released in 1983 as a 7" single B-side (see 1983). This appeared on a promo CD single in 2000.

This film is a remake of the Spanish-language film "Abra Los Oyos [Open Your Eyes]" in which Penelope Cruz played the same role as she does here - there is, however, no Dylan song on that soundtrack.

This Spanish film, whose title actually translates as "No News From God", yet again stars Penelope Cruz, this time with Victoria Abril. It includes Political World from Oh Mercy, which plays over the opening credits It was also known as "Bendito Infierno [Blessed Hell]" in Latin American countries! The film dialogue is in Spanish on Earth, in French in Heaven and in English in Hell! There appears to be no UK DVD release but my Spanish copy has the option of English sub-titles during the Spanish- and French-speaking sections.

Tohokushinsha Film Corporation (Japan) - 2007 commercial DVD release, picture from www.amazon.co.jp
One of the soundtrack albums of this independent Japanese movie directed by Tomorowo Taguchi and based on a series of comic books by Jun Miura, has eighteen Dylan songs. For the 2004 Sony film soundtrack album with artwork by Jun Miura see International Album Releases (Dylan-Only Compilations) 2000s.

There is also a film soundtrack album on the UK Project label containing the film score with no Dylan music. Thanks to Jack from Canada for the information that this is because the Dylan songs on the soundtrack album don't actually appear in the film, just in the form of lyrics as sub-titles, although an actor appears throughout the film as "Dylan's ghost"! However, I am leaving this entry here for information.

This film has no relationship to the 2003 US Film "Identity" above! As far as I know there are no US or UK DVD releases, but the Japanese releases do have English sub-titles.

Thanks to Fred Muller for the following information about the Dylan content: "A series of stills of Dylan at Newport in 1965 (afternoon soundcheck with polka-dot shirt) is shown about halfway through the film, during an interview with Marshall Chess. The soundtrack has an excerpt of the live Newport recording of Maggie's Farm at that point. Immediately thereafter there's about 15 seconds of monochrome film of Dylan with the band members, presumably shortly after the show. It seems to be slowed down somewhat and Dylan holds a wine bottle to his left ear as the camera pans away from him." Thanks to Jack from Canada for scans.
