This new page collects song performances from regular Dylan albums on VHS video and DVD included in films and TV series from 2005-09 (I'm ignoring any editing or talking over them). I would be grateful for any additional information on these items and other material to place here. Films are listed by date of original appearance (in theatres or on TV), not when the VHS video or DVD came out, often some years later. The last entry for which there was a VHS release appears to be 2005. For the audio soundtrack albums on which these songs often also appear, see International Album Releases (Various Artists Compilations) 2000s. For films from this period with Dylan rarities, see VHS & DVD.

For a full Dylan filmography, see "Expecting Rain" or "TV Talkin'" . For informed discussion of all Bob's screen appearances, see C.P. Lee's well-received book "Like A Bullet Of Light ".

Any scans that aren't credited are from my own collection or amazon.com.

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Fight the much-hated artificial and anti-consumer DVD Region system by making your PC DVD drive and software or your stand-alone DVD player region-free! For more information, see Inmatrix . Everyone can play all CDs worldwide, and it should be the same for DVDs! Also see DVD Codes .

Some studios are fortunately realising that they can maximise sales of individual DVD releases by making them region-free instead of having to manufacture multiple region-specific copies- click on the picture on the right to see the text.

I Shall Be Released from Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 was used in the episode "Queen Of The Zombies" broadcast in the USA on Friday 14 Jan 2005.

Thanks to Jack Guerreiro for information that sadly it isn't on the Season 2 DVD, which states "SOME MUSIC HAS BEEN CHANGED FOR THIS HOME ENTERTAINMENT VERSION". This is a case where music has been licensed for TV broadcast but not for DVD release.

Not Dark Yet from Time Out Of Mind was used in episode 1, Season 2, broadcast in the USA on Sunday 6 Mar 2005. This version sounds clearer than the album version and may be from the as yet unreleased remastered edition of the album.

The soundtrack album from Season 1, Lost Highway Records (USA), 2005, doesn't have any Dylan content.

Bob's contribution to this sequel to Get Shorty starring John Travolta and Uma Thurman is Knockin' On Heaven's Door from Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid, not on the TVT film soundtrack album.

The film was released in the USA in Widescreen and Full Screen editions, in the UK it was Widescreen only. It is also available in the USA and UK in a double pack with Get Shorty. In the UK there is also a UMD cartridge version for Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) games consoles (I don't know if these are region-coded).

…amonn ” CathŠin reported that Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 from Blonde On Blonde was the "signature tune" of this sitcom showing on Sky One in the UK in Oct 2005 and starring Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban marijuana dealer!

Thanks to Jack Guerreiro for information that the US DVD release of Season 1 of the series contains no Dylan material of any kind, not even in the extras. I can only assume that the song was just used in TV ads for the series, and not in the series itself. There is as yet no UK DVD release.

This film biography of Johnny Cash contains Highway 61 Revisited, although it is not on the soundtrack album (below), which contains only cover performances from the film. The soundtrack album does contain Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon (who won a Best Actress Oscar) as June Carter performing It Ain't Me, Babe. There are several references to Bob in the film, including a framed picture of the Blonde On Blonde album cover on the wall in the Columbia offices.

The music director for the film was Bob's friend T-Bone Burnett.

Thanks to Tim Dunn for information about the 2006 US DVD release, which was in three versions including a two disc Special Edition, all of which include ten deleted scenes. This film was also released in Canada in 2008 as part of the "Best Actress Collection", a boxed set of five DVDs in their original packaging. The other four films have no Dylan content. Thanks to Jack Guerreiro for information and scans.

The Director's Cut at 186 mins is 24 mins longer than the Theatrical version at 162 mins, but as far as I know includes no extra Dylan material. The main character is obsessed with Bob Dylan, and the film includes It's All Over Now, Baby Blue from Bringing It All Back Home. This excerpt was included on the bonus DVD with the Japanese limited edition of Together Through Life, see International Album Releases. As well as the single DVD release, there is also a 3 disc set including a CD. The Dylan track is not on the UK Project soundtrack album, which consists of music by Yoshihide Otomo. "Shikisoku zekuu" is a Buddhist expression meaning among other things "all is vanity", so the film title could be "Vanity Generation".

For "Iden & Tity", a 2004 film directed by Tomorowo Taguchi based on a series of comic books by Jun Miura, see Films with Dylan Album Tracks 2000-04.
