"Cambio De Guardia [Changing Of The Guards]"/"Neuvo Pony [New Pony]" - 7" test pressing and commercial singles, CBS 6559 (Spain), Dec 1978:
CBS 6559 (Spain) - test pressing A-side picture from Todocoleccion |
The Spanish version of this single, CBS 6559, has the titles in Spanish as "Cambio De Guardia" and "Nuevo Pony" (the Spanish for "Pony" is just "Poni" so it's surprising it wasn't used). The single came with two rear sleeve variants and three label variants. The first rear sleeve variant has the full English lyrics (9 verses), the second rear variant lists 5 verses only. Note this sleeve and the Italian and Yugoslavian releases above have the full album picture, not the crop used on other countries' sleeves. Jordi Badell has a copy of this single in the generic "Sonido de los 70" CBS Spain sleeve, see 7" Single Sleeves (the variant with "Discos CBS S.A."). |

"Changing Of The Guards"/"New Pony" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS 6559 (Italy), Dec 1978(?):
The Italian single has a mastering date of "Aug 28, 1978" as part of the record matrix numbers. The record of Sergio Mariano Romay's promo copy has a stamp on the B-side with the words "CAMPIONE GRATUITO [FREE SAMPLE]". There are no promo stamps on the A-side or the sleeve.
Thanks to Hans Seegers, Victoria Stafford and Sergio Mariano Romay for information and scans.
"Changing Of The Guards"/"New Pony" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS 6559 (Yugoslavia), Dec 1978:
The Yugoslav release shown was also available in a promo version with a round white sticker with the words "'PROMOTIVNI UZORAK NIJE ZA PRODAJU ["PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE]".
There are two A-side label variants - the first has a wide gap between "CHANGING OF THE GUARDS" and the timing "3:39", the second has a much smaller gap.
Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.
"Changing Of The Guards"/"New Pony" - 7" commercial single, Pepita Favorit SPSK 70357 (Hungary), Dec 1978:
Pepita Favorit SPSK 70357 (Hungary) - front (my copy) |
This Hungarian single was the only Bob Dylan single issued in pre-perestroika Hungary! It is an authorised release licensed by CBS. The matrix numbers (stamped both sides) are: A-side - SPSK 70357-A II P HP, B-side - SPSK 70357-B II P HP. Sergio Mariano Romay has a copy where the two sides have the same A-side paper label, but the B-side plays New Pony as expected.

R-0147-4 Changing Of The Guards - radio edit, 3:39 These singles have the edited version of the A-side, even though there's no indication on the labels. The Australian promo has "DEMONSTRATION ONLY NOT FOR SALE" printed below the CBS logo. The New Zealand promo is actually just a commercial copy with a promo sticker on the B-side only. These singles had no picture sleeve. The New Zealand release came in a plain orange sleeve unique to New Zealand, see 7" Single Sleeves. |
