This is the fourth part of a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released stereo Dylan-only compilation albums (including Greatest Hits albums with non-standard tracklists) that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are all available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo-only Dylan compilation albums are now included on this page. Thanks to Hans Seegers for all the exclusive CBS Japanese releases, etc.!
Other International Albums and Compilations are now here:

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Bob Dylan Compilations
For the other parts of this list, see the links above. This list now includes albums with the title Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (various Volumes) with non-standard tracklists. For Greatest Hits albums with the standard US tracklists see International Albums (Regular). There are also several international Bob Dylan compilation albums such as The Essential Bob Dylan which contain rarities in the main Searching For A Gem list.
1990
"Forever Young" - promo CD, CBS XPCD 116 (UK), Feb 1990:
All the tracks included, three of which come from Bob's then new album Oh Mercy, are from regular albums, although three other songs are versions from Biograph rather than from their original albums. It's a quite different album from the 1978 Spanish promo LP and the 1988 US promo CD (Columbia CSK 1151) with the same title. For those see the 1970s and 1980s links above and below.
Tracks included are:
Political World from Oh Mercy; The Times They Are A-Changin' from the album of the same name; Visions Of Johanna - live 1966 version from Biograph; It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - live 1966 version from Biograph; Everything Is Broken from Oh Mercy; Rainy Day Women #23 & 35 from Blonde On Blonde; Forever Young - demo version from Biograph; Man In A Long Black Coat from Oh Mercy; Lay, Lady, Lay from Nashville Skyline; Subterranean Homesick Blues from Bringing It All Back Home; A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and Blowin' In The Wind from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan; Chimes Of Freedom from Another Side Of Bob Dylan.
This CD was made in England by PDO (Philips & Dupont Optical), who had a CD pressing plant in Blackburn, Lancashire. PDO manufactured mostly budget and classical CDs for a large number of record companies including Ace Records, Decca and Deutsche Grammophon. This copy is exhibiting the "bronzing" discolouration of two of my 1990s UK CD singles, see International Singles: Singles & EPs 1990-1999. For the 1989 CBS UK CD single of Everything Is Broken, also made by PDO but doesn't seem to be affected, see International Singles: Singles & EPs 1987-89.
"Los Monstruos Del Rock [The Monsters Of Rock]: Bob Dylan" - stereo compilation LP, CBS CLS-463764 (Mexico), 1990:
CBS CLS-463764 (Mexico) - front scan by Manuel García Jara |
This release has a unique picture sleeve and sleeve notes and song titles in Spanish. This album is part of a series released by CBS in Mexico called "Los Monstruos del Rock" (a similar series called "Los Monstruos del Pop" with the same artwork also was published by CBS at the same time). All of these albums were previously released in Mexico as "Greatest Hits" compilations: Janis Joplin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Electric Light Orchestra, Santana, Boston, Chicago, etc. The picture of Bob dates from 1978, used for the first time for the Spanish 7" single Baby Stop Crying and for the UK and Irish 12" Is Your Love in Vain singles. It was reused for a 2001 UK free CD called The Voice Of Every Generation, see 2001. |
This is actually the 1967 album Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits with the tracks reordered, so is now listed in International Albums (Regular).
Side 1: Como Una Piedra Rodante (Like A Rolling Stone); La Respuesta Esta En El Viento (Blowin’ In The Wind); El Blues De La Guarida Subterranea (Subterranean Homesick Blues); No Me Tienes Nena (It Ain't Me Babe); El Hombre Del Tambor (Mr. Tambourine Man).
Side 2: Los Tiempos Cambian (The Times They Are A-Changin' ); Mujer En Dia Lluvioso (Rainy Day Women #12 & 35); Te Deseo (I Want You); Calle 4 Francamente (Positively 4th Street); Como Toda Una Mujer (Just Like A Woman).
The song titles are translated into Spanish and subtitled in English both on the rear sleeve and on the labels. The Spanish translations are different from earlier Mexican releases (see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965)! Also compare the different titles on a 1967 South American mono album called El Trovador De Nuestro Tiempo - Bob Dylan - Poeta O Profeta? - see Mono LPs - Dylan-only Compilations.

"Platin Series" - Columbia 487924 6 (Mainland Europe), 2001/"Platinum Series" - Columbia 487924 5 (Mainland Europe), 2002:
Columbia 487924 6 (Germany) - front of slipcase, picture from www.discogs.,com (2001 release) |
In 2001 a Columbia series called "Platin" [Platinum] was released in mainland Europe with the albums manufactured in Austria for Europe-wide distribution and the "Platin" slipcases manufactured in Germany. The Best Of Bob Dylan shown here is "Columbia 487924 6" on the spine and "Sony Music 4879246000" on the rear. I suspect the "Platin" versions were intended for Germany only. Gerd Rundel's 2002 copy has a slipcase with the title "Platinum" with "Columbia 487924 5" on the spine and "Sony Music 4879245000" on the rear. The CD inside is the Sony Music UK release SONYTV28CD with the original inserts and the 1997 disc. |
