Thanks to Tim Dunn, Hervé from France and John Gaylor for information, also to Sam C. Visser and Gerd Rundel for scans. Sadly Bob's song wasn't nominated in the end for a 2003 Oscar.

R-0586-2 'Cross The Green Mountain - original song from film soundtrack, played over the closing credits (8:12), now released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 - Tell Tale Signs: Rare And Unreleased 1989-2006 (2008)
The version played over the closing credits in the film itself is edited to about 5 minutes in length, see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 2.
R-0586
is one of the 42 rarities included for download with the Aug 2006 Apple iTunes Bob Dylan Collection, see Online Performances (Other).

R-0601-2 'Cross The Green Mountain - edit of original song from video on DVD with Limited Edition (3:10)

The full version of 'Cross The Green Mountain was released in Oct 2008 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 - Tell Tale Signs: Rare And Unreleased 1989-2006, see here. This means R-0586 has ceased to be a rarity. R-0601 remains a rarity.

Bob took part in a shoot for the video of this song in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA, on 23 Nov 2002. He appears in period dress with a wig and beard similar to the ones he wore at the Newport Folk Festival, Newport, RI, on 3 Aug 2002! This video, 3:10 in length, is included as a bonus DVD in the Limited Edition of the soundtrack album.

The bonus DVD is NTSC, but region-free and will certainly play on a Region 2 DVD player. For details of the US DVD and VHS releases of the film itself, see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 2.

Jack from Canada has two copies of this set, one of which has the bonus DVD made in the USA, and the other has the bonus DVD made in Mexico! Scans of both are shown for comparison - the colours are slightly different with the Mexican copy being browner. My copy is the same as his USA-made version.

In the UK the US import Limited Edition can be obtained from Badlands, see my Trading page for contact details.

The Warner Bros promo was sent only to members of the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the hope of obtaining Oscar nominations for Jeff Frizzell for composition of the Best Original Score and to Bob Dylan for Best Original Song. Unfortunately this did not happen. Peter Oudejans has a promo CD-R in a jewel case with a rear insert only.

The version from the privately-produced album released in 2000, Cruzados - Unreleased Early Recordings, is timed at 4:40, see 2000. This version at the end of CD2 has a long pause after the end of the music, followed by a voice saying "Hi! This is Bob...", thanks to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for spotting this. Thanks to Hanns Peter Bushoff for confirming that this version of Rising Sun is indeed exactly the same as R-0452, and was sent to him by Tony Marsico of the Cruzados. The spoken fragment is actually taken from Bob's Columbia 1965 Miami Sales Convention message, see 1965.

"Bob Dylan SA-CD Sampler" - promo 6-track Multichannel SA-CD, Columbia CSH 55838 (USA), 6 Jun 2003:
This was originally listed as a Dylan album tracks compilation, but was moved here when it was announced that The Bootleg Series Vol. 6: Live 1964 would be released in CD stereo only, turning the SA-CD versions of All I Really Want To Do into rarities! See below for a seven-track sampler from Oct 2003 with the same catalogue number.

Sony SA-CD May catalogue announcing the fifteen Dylan SA-CD releases

At the Home Entertainment Show in San Francisco, CA, to provide members of the media with a flavour of the Columbia/Legacy Dylan Remastered material, Columbia handed out a promo six track hybrid SA-CD for reporters who were at the event. Each of the six tracks is available on the disc in three formats: CD Stereo, SA-CD Stereo and SA-CD Surround Sound. This promo SA-CD is in a clear plastic wallet without artwork. This sampler was exclusive to the Home Entertainment Show, although a new version with an extra track was also released with the limited edition of the Masked And Anonymous soundtrack - see below.

R-0635 All I Really Want To Do - live from Philharmonic Hall, New York City, 31 Oct 1964, version in SA-CD stereo

R-0636 All I Really Want To Do - live from Philharmonic Hall, New York City, 31 Oct 1964, version in SA-CD 5.1 surround sound

The tracks on the sampler are:
1. All I Really Want To Do - from Bob Dylan Live 1964, Concert At Philharmonic Hall, The Bootleg Series, Volume 6 (this is now a rarity as the album released in Mar 2004 was in stereo only)
2. Love Minus Zero/No Limit - from Bringing It All Back Home
3. Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again - from Blonde on Blonde
4. Tangled Up In Blue - from Blood On The Tracks
5. Gotta Serve Somebody - from Slow Train Coming
6. Moonlight - from "Love & Thef
t"

Leading off the demonstrations, Steven Berkowitz (Senior Vice President A&R, Legacy Recordings) played track one which is from a previously unreleased Bootleg Series album recorded live in 1964. He told the group that this Dylan Remastered SA-CD would be coming out in October and would be the 16th disc in the series. The song features a 22 year old Dylan, singing with some enthusiasm and raw energy. This track is also interesting since it sounds like Dylan may have had a drink or two before the performance. (There was some talk in the listening session about Dylan being "a bit tipsy").

The Limited Edition also came with a separate insert with the track list of the bonus disc on the front and details of the 2003 Reissue Series on the rear.

Thanks to David Thomas for reminding me that the Sampler SA-CD has a spoof "361° SOUND STEREO" logo as on 1960s stereo LPs, which had "360° SOUND STEREO". This reappeared on the Chronicles CD in 2004 , while the Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963 CDs from 2005 had "363° SOUND STEREO"!

Paul Shenton has a copy of the Limited Edition with a beige coloured outer spine that is other wise identical to mine. I have two copies of a no Dylan album in a digipak, one of which has been on a shelf and the other in a drawer. The spine of the copy that has been on the shelf and exposed to light is now a similar beige, while the spine of the copy that has been stored away from light is still red. I therefore believe the spine of Paul's copy is just faded.

The regular album (not yet shown) comes in a standard jewel case. The 16-page booklet from the Limited Edition is the front insert.

R-0635-3 All I Really Want To Do - live from Philharmonic Hall, New York City, 31 Oct 1964, version in SA-CD stereo (this is now a rarity as the album released in Mar 2004 was in stereo only)

R-0636-3 All I Really Want To Do - live from Philharmonic Hall, New York City, 31 Oct 1964, version in SA-CD 5.1 surround sound (this too is now a rarity as the album released in Mar 2004 was in stereo only)
Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin for a report that The Bootleg Series Vol. 6 -
Bob Dylan Live 1964: Concert At Philharmonic Hall from 2003 will finally be released on SA-CD in stereo and 5.0 surround sound remastered by Steve Hoffman in Mar 2016.

This promo SA-CD sampler has the same catalogue number as the previous one, but is actually the 7-track sampler included with the Limited Edition of Masked And Anonymous (see above) in a gatefold card sleeve. Cold Irons Bound from Masked And Anonymous is the seventh track. This CD design is different from the sampler CD.

The inside of the gatefold sleeve has a pocket on the right for the CD. On the left are the pictures of the fifteen Dylan albums being released on hybrid SA-CD in Sep 2003, on the right is a plug for The Bootleg Series Vol. 6: Live 1964 with a first look at the cover design. There is also a version of the US sampler with a slightly different rear design that was being given away with Sony SA-CD and DVD players at Christmas 2003. This has the same catalogue number but new text on the back: "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PLAYER, YOU DESERVE A SPECIAL DISC". This was available both in a card sleeve and in a jewel case.

The European version of this promo sampler has a slightly different card sleeve but a different CD (silver instead of white). The CD is made in Austria.

See above for a six-track sampler from Jun 2003 with the same catalogue number.

Thanks to Peter Good for finding the US sampler on eBay, to Hervé from France, Pachi Becerril, Ian Woodward, Gerd Rundel and Jack from Canada for information and pictures.

Lone Justice - "The Best Of Lone Justice: The Millennium Collection", Geffen B0000718-02 (USA), 20 Oct 2003:

Geffen B0000718-02 (USA) - front (my copy)

R-0274-2 Go Away Little Boy - Bob appears on Lone Justice's version of one of his unreleased compositions (an out-take from Empire Burlesque) - this is a remix by Bob Clearmountain of R-0163, the bonus track that appeared on the B-side of the 12" single of Sweet Sweet Baby (I'm Falling) (Remix) in 1985. Bob plays rhythm guitar. I previously said that Bob may also have played harmonica on this track - however, it's clearly stated on the 1999 and 2003 releases of the song that the harmonica was played by Maria McKee. Thanks to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for this information.
The lyrics have now been removed from bobdylan.com!

The front insert is a single sheet folded into four sections. For The World Is Not My Home: The Best Of Lone Justice, the US Geffen compilation on which this remix first appeared, see 1999.

Thanks to Ole Lien for the information.
