This page is part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and CD singles and EPs that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! This page is incomplete - more entries required. All promo-only singles and promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"The Times They Are A-Changin'"/"Like A Rolling Stone" - 7" mono vinyl single, Columbia 38-780873/88697808737 (USA), 26 Nov 2010:
Columbia 38-780873/88697808737 (USA) - front picture from Vintage Vinyl web-site |
. The Times They Are A-Changin' is the Witmark demo from The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964, see International Album Releases (Regular). Like A Rolling Stone is from the mono mix of Highway 61 Revisited included in the 9CD set The Original Mono Recordings, see International Album Releases (Multi-Packs) 2010s. (It's also on the mono compilation CD The Best Of The Original Mono Recordings, see The Best Of The Original Mono Recordings (2010) ). As this is a mono single (the first new mono Bob Dylan single since 1976), it should strictly have its own mono page but is included here as no more mono singles have been released since. The record labels mistakenly say "STEREO" even though I'm assured the tracks are actually in mono! |

"Subterranean Homesick Blues (The Ting Tings Remix)" - 7" stereo single, Columbia/Sony Music 88697 900227 2 (USA/Europe), 16 Apr 2011:
Subterranean Homesick Blues - track from Bringing It All Back Home remixed by the Ting Tings, A-side of US/European Columbia single, 2011, details also in 2011.
The B-side is blank. The single comes in a custom sleeve with a front cut-out for the A-side label. The record and sleeve of my copy were made in the EU.
The Ting Tings are an English indie pop duo composed of Jules de Martino and Katie White. They had a UK No. 1 hit with That's Not My Name in 2008 and their album We Started Nothing has sold over 2 million copies.
Thanks to Dag Braathen for information.

"Vinyl Box Set" - 4 x 7" mono singles, Columbia/Legacy
88697 97711 7 (USA), 18 Oct 2011; Columbia/Legacy/Music On Vinyl MOV 7012 (NL
for Europe), 21 Apr 2012:
These singles are mono, but listed here because there are no other mono
singles released in the 2010s.
Columbia/Legacy 88697 97711 7 (USA) - left hand edge of
box (compare with European box below)
The four singles in the limited edition vinyl box are:
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-1/4-43242 - Subterranean Homesick Blues/She Belongs To Me (Mar 1965)
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-2/4-43346 - Like A Rolling Stone/Gates Of Eden (Jun 1965)
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-3/4-43389 - Positively 4th Street/From A Buick Six (Sep 1965)
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-4/4-43477 - Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?/Highway 61 Revisited (Jan 1966)
The front design was actually used for a 1966 Portuguese EP with Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? as the title track.
The Record Store Day singles have poor reproduction sleeves. The sleeves were designed by Geoff Gans, who reportedly used the low grade scans, that were also used for the book with the Deluxe Edition of The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 - Tell Tale Signs in 2008.
Thanks to Ronald Born for information.

Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-2/4-43346 - Like A Rolling Stone/Gates Of Eden
|
The Like A Rolling Stone single uses the 1965 French CBS EP 6107 EP sleeve but on the on the rear of the sleeve the picture at bottom left of the Nov 1964 French EP CBS 5923 has been replaced by a picture of the 2006 album Modern Times! Bizarrely, the catalogue number beneath the picture is still "45 T EP 5923"... The labels have a similar design to that of the CDs in the 9CD mono set The Original Mono Recordings released in Oct 2010 with a "365 SOUND"/MONO/arrows logo. The original 1965 Columbia US 7" single release is listed in International Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965. |

Columbia/Legacy 88725473287/4-43346 (USA) - side

Sergio Mariano Romay (2012 release with T-shirt, other side is the same)
Thanks to Keith Venturoni for finding a variant of the Like A Rolling Stone/Gates Of Eden single in the "Threads + Grooves" series in a box with a T-shirt at Target in Dec 2012 in the USA. This is described as exclusive to Target. Instead of catalogue number 88697977117-2 it has catalogue number 88725473287 on the outer box, rear sleeve, the record labels and the reverse of a flyer advertising Tempest. The front sleeve is the same as 88697977117-2 above. Sergio Mariano Romay has provided additional scans of the box, sleeve and record.
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-3/4-43389 - Positively 4th Street/From A Buick Six
The Positively 4th Street single uses the 1965 US sleeve but was poorly reproduced - both the 2011 and 1965 scans are by Augie Krater and you can see the 1965 sleeve is cleaner and brighter. The labels again have a similar design to that of the CDs in the 9CD mono set The Original Mono Recordings released in Oct 2010 with a "365 SOUND"/MONO/arrows logo.
Columbia/Legacy 88697977117-4/4-43477 - Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?/Highway 61 Revisited
The Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? single uses the Danish CBS 1900 front sleeve with a new design with a pink background on the rear. The labels again have a similar design to that of the CDs in the 9CD mono set The Original Mono Recordings released in Oct 2010 with a "365 SOUND"/MONO/arrows logo.
Thanks to Harold Lepidus for information and especially for a copy of the box itself, to Augie Krater for further information and scans, and to Hans Seegers, Augie Krater and Stefan Haras for scans of the original 1960s singles.

Thanks to Ian

was on
21 Apr 2012. The Bob Dylan exclusive product was the
boxed set of
four 7" mono vinyl singles released in the USA for Record Store Day, 2011 as
above.
For more info, see
.
Thanks to Joel Gayford for information that the UK "Record Store Day" vinyl singles box
was made by the Dutch specialist vinyl company Music On Vinyl rather than Sony Legacy, so there
are
significant differences from the US release, including both front and rear of
the box. The front design is now of the 1969 CBS/Sony Japan 7" single of Can
You Please Crawl Out Your Window? Unlike the US box, both the left
hand and bottom edges have artwork. Again, my copy is still sealed. It has a
gold stamp on the rear with "No. 000086". Thanks to Hans Seeger for the scan of the original 1969 Japanese single. |

"Duquesne Whistle"/"Meet Me In The Morning (Alternate Take)" - limited edition "Record Store Day" 7" stereo single, Columbia 38-540533 (8765-40533-7) (USA), 23 Nov 2012:
Columbia 38-540533 (8765-40533-7) (USA) - front scan by Paul S. Levine |
The A-side of this limited edition single is the album track from Tempest. As the B-side is a previously unreleased rarity that was not even circulating amongst collectors, full details are in 2012. It is still a rarity despite being released on the single CD version of The Bootleg Series Vol. 14 - More Blood, More Tracks, 2018, because the version on that CD has been edited by around 40 seconds. Thanks to Keith Venturoni for news that this alternate take was used in an AT&T US TV commercial in Feb 2014 during the Winter Olympic coverage. Thanks to Harold Lepidus and Paul S. Levine for information and picture. |

"Wigwam (Demo)"/"Thirsty Boots" - limited edition "Record Store Day" 7" stereo single, Columbia 38-549235 (USA)/Columbia 88765492357 (Europe), 20 Apr 2013:
Columbia 38-549235 (USA) - front (my copy) |
Thanks to Fred Muller and Szymon Strużyna for news that an exclusive Bob Dylan single was released in the USA on Record Store Day, 20 Apr 2013, with two previously unreleased tracks from the 2013 release The Bootleg Series Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971). These are Wigwam (Unreleased Demo) and Bob's cover of Eric Andersen's Thirsty Boots. Both songs were recorded at Columbia Recording Studios, New York, 4 Mar 1970. To call Wigwam an "unreleased demo" is misleading, it's actually the same take as on Self Portrait, but without overdubs. These tracks were rarities at the time of release, but are no longer rarities now that the Bootleg Series Vol. 10 set has been released. Eric Andersen's name is misspelled "Anderson" on both the rear sleeve and the B-side of the single. Eric's version of the song can be found on his 1966 US Vanguard album 'bout changes & things, released on CD in 1992. |

François Guillez's copy of the US single has a promo sticker on the rear sleeve.
The record has a picture sleeve with a rear design based on the 1970s CBS Germany "Blitzinformation [Lightning Information]" promo sleeve (see right). The record has light orange Columbia labels with black text with the "STEREO"/"359 SOUND"/arrows logo. Riku Halinen has a copy bought in Finland that is mislabelled - the A-side labelled Wigwam plays Thirsty Boots and vice-versa! I have had no other notification of this mistake.
Thanks to Tim Dunn for the US single and to John Caruth, Hans Seegers anxd François Guillez for information and scans.
"Pretty Saro" - promo stereo CD-R single, Columbia/Legacy (no catalogue number) (UK), Aug 2013:
This UK one-track promo CD-R for The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) comes in a clear plastic sleeve with a folded insert. The plastic sleeve has a seal over the opening side with text “IF THIS SEAL IS BROKEN YOU MUST CONTACT THE PERSON WHO SENT IT YOU IMMEDIATELY”. The rear of the folded insert has a white sticker indicating that the promo CD-R is traceable and a number below (removed from the scans). The folded insert is blank on the inside.

"Full Moon & Empty Arms" - stereo online single, Columbia (no catalogue number) (USA), 13 May 2014; limited edition promo CD-R single, Sony Music (France), Sep 2014:
Picture from bobdylan.com |
Thanks to Derek Barker for information about this song which appeared on the bobdylan.com home page on 13 Apr 2014. The song Full Moon And Empty Arms was written by Buddy Kaye and Ted Mossman in 1945 with music based on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2 in C minor, and was a hit for Frank Sinatra. This preceded the release of a new Dylan covers album called Shadows In The Night, expected originally to be released on 26 Aug 2014, but which was eventually released in Feb 2015. Thanks to Tim Dunn for information that the song was first copyrighted on 11 Oct 1945, by Barton Music Corp., copyright renewed 30 Jan 1973. |

Thanks to Arie de Reus and Wiebke Dittmer for notifying me of a CD-R single being auctioned on eBay in Sep 2014 in a card sleeve of the design above left that purports to be a French promo of this song. However, Hervé from France says that there is a legitimate Sony Music France Sep 2014 promo CD-R in a plastic wallet with a folded paper insert (only 50 have been made), but the copies in a card sleeve are fake. This CD-R single has no catalogue number, but has a red Sony Music logo on the rear of the insert and a black Sony Music logo on the CD-R itself. Michel Pomarede has provided scans of the card sleeve version and it does not appear to be fake!
Thanks to Sergio Mariano Romay for scans of the German promo CD-R on a CD single jewel case. Both the disc and the rear of the insert have the Sony Music logo.
Thanks to Dag Braathen for finding the sheet music to Blue Moon by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, which has the exact moon and clouds design used for Bob's version of Full Moon And Empty Arms! This song was performed by Bob on Self Portrait in 1970 and reissued in a remastered version on The Bootleg Series, Vol. 10 - Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) in 2013.

"Like A Rolling Stone (alternate version)"/"Desolation Row (piano demo)" - 7" stereo single with "Rolling Stone" magazine, Sony Music/Columbia (no catalogue number) (Germany), Nov 2015:
Front of sleeve (my copy) |
This single, exclusive to the Nov 2015 edition of the German "Rolling Stone" magazine, contains an alternate take of Like A Rolling Stone and a piano demo of Desolation Row from the set The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - Bob Dylan 1965-1966 The Cutting Edge. They are the versions from tracks 15 and 18 of CD1 of the 2CD set The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - Bob Dylan 1965-1966 The Best Of The Cutting Edge. The front design is based on the picture sleeve of the 1965 Danish 7" mono release CBS 210.811, see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965. Ronald Born has a test pressing with plain white labels on both sides. It can only be identified by the matrix numbers: A-side - 119187 A1 KM, B-side - 119187 B1 KM. "KM" stands for Katie Müller, mastering engineer of Celebrate Records in Stollberg (Saxony), where the commercial copies (with the identical matrix numbers) were also pressed. |

Patti Smith as Bob Dylan, photo by Judy Lynn from www.ffffound.com |
The single was released with the help of Searching For A Gem contributor Dr. Hanns Peter Bushoff. The sleeve is made of very heavy card. The single has orange Columbia labels. Both the sleeve and the record labels have the logo of the Austrian copyright organisation Austro Mechana, which appears on all German "Rolling Stone" singles. The single was pressed in Germany but it is apparently cheaper to register the copyright in Austria than with the German organisation GEMA! The magazine front has the headline "Bob Dylan und der beste Song aller Zeiten [Bob Dylan and the best Song of all Time]" and includes a nine page article "Revolution in sechs Minuten [Revolution in Six Minutes]" by Maik Brüggemeyer and a "free" translation of the song lyrics into German as "Wie ein rollender Stein" by singer, guitarist and author Judith Holofernes (Judith Holfelder-Roy - in the Book of Judith, part of the Biblical Apocrypha, the Chaldean general Holofernes was killed by Judith). Maik Brüggemeyer is the editor of the German "Rolling Stone" magazine, a long-time Dylan fan, and author of a Bob Dylan novel with the title “Catfish”, published in 2015 by Walde + Graf, Metrolit Verlag GmbH & Co. KG, Berlin (German ISBN 978-3-8493-0363-1). The book cover photo is by Judy Linn and the woman holding the Bob Dylan picture in front of her face is Patti Smith.
Thanks to Wiebke Dittmer, Ronald Born and Gerd Rundel for information and scan and to Christoph Maus for the magazine and single.
"Like A Rolling Stone" (alternate take)/"She Belongs To Me" (solo acoustic) - 7" stereo single, Sony Music/Columbia (no catalogue number) (UK), Nov 2015:
Front of sleeve with £4.99 HMV store sticker (my copy) |
This single, exclusive to HMV in the UK and costing £4.99, contains the alternate take of Like A Rolling Stone and a solo acoustic version of She Belongs To Me from the set The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - Bob Dylan 1965-1966 The Cutting Edge. They are the versions from tracks 15 and 4 of CD1 of the 2CD set The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - Bob Dylan 1965-1966 The Best Of The Cutting Edge. The front design is again based on the picture sleeve of the 1965 Danish 7" mono release, see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965 - this time in blue. The front design was based on the front of the 1965 Danish single, but the rear sleeve has a design based on the rear of the 1965 Mexican EP "Como Una Piedra Que Rueda", again see Mono 7" Singles & EPs 1965. The record labels are based on the 1960s Columbia Special Products US labels, but in blue instead of red. |

Gerd Rundel has found a single on eBay from Unity Mastering that purports to be an acetate of this UK single. It has Unity Mastering labels and "Bob Dylan" is misspelled "Bib Dylan" on both sides. The engineer was Chris Parmenidis and the labels are dated "10/8/2015" (10 Aug 2015). Chris Parmenidis is indeed the chief engineer at Unity Mastering. However, I think it’s a test pressing (vinyl, double-sided), not an acetate (shellac on metal, single-sided, requiring two discs). It comes in a plain white sleeve, but the digital photos illustrating the item are too poor to include here.
Thanks to Éamonn Ó Catháin and Manuel García Jara for information and scans. Special thanks to Ian Woodward for the copy of the single!

That Old Black Magic is
surprisingly based upon Louis Prima's version, not Frank Sinatra's. Prima's
version was aired on the "Halloween" episode of Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio
Hour, and included a cymbals intro as used here.
Both Melancholy Mood and All Or Nothing At All are based upon Harry James'
versions from 1939, although All Or Nothing At All does not have a brass intro,
but a guitar intro exactly as Bob and his band have been playing in concert.

Nice 'N' Easy (Capitol, USA, 1960) - Frank Sinatra's album with his version of She's Funny That Way |
This 6 track download EP commissioned by MGM Resorts consists of six "regendered" songs that could be played at LGBT weddings. Bob's song is a revised version of the 1928 song She's Funny That Way recorded by Frank Sinatra for his 1960 Capitol album Nice 'N' Easy. Because this is a rarity, full details are in 2018. Thanks to Tim Dunn for information that Billie Holiday recorded the song as He's Funny That Way for her 1952 Clef Records 10" album An Evening With Billie Holiday. A revised version of this album, still containing He's Funny That Way, was released in 1956 by Clef Records in the 12" LP format as A Recital By Billie Holiday.
The vinyl release was released as a 12" single on Record Store Day in the USA and Europe, 21 Apr 2018. The record comes in a card inner sleeve and has rainbow record labels. There is a single-sided lyrics insert. Scans of the US release required!
