This page contains items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem or International Stereo Releases lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as being worthy of inclusion. This is not intended to be a comprehensive section on Dylan Covers. The late Dave Plentus' excellent Dylan Cover Albums site is now kept alive on Expecting Rain by Karl-Erik Anderson here and these pages are not intended to match or replace it. This page includes notable cover albums by Various Artists contributed by Dylan collectors. The other Honourable Mentions pages are listed below.

Start Records STDL 20 (UK) - LP front of gatefold sleeve, scan by Gerd Rundel

This 1989 2LP/two cassette set of 32 tracks was remarkable in having covers of a Dylan rarity Rita May by Jerry Lee Lewis and four otherwise unreleased songs by Bob. The four unreleased songs are: Dusty Old Fairgrounds by Blue Ash; Wanted Man by George Thorogood; Champaign, Illinois by Carl Perkins and Let's Keep It Between Us by Bonnie Raitt. These four songs are on the 2LP and two cassette releases only, not the single CD release, which has only 20 of the tracks. Five further songs, Abandoned Love; Farewell Angelina; If You Gotta Go, Go Now; Seven Days and Need A Woman, were unreleased at the time, but released in 1991 on The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3. Dusty Old Fairgrounds was included on the limited edition 6LP set 50th Anniversary Collection 1963 in 2013 but remains a rarity, Wanted Man was released in 2019 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 - Travelin' Thru 1967-1969.

Various Artists - "Bob Dylan: τα τραγούδια του [His Songs]" - compilation album, Sony/BMG (no catalogue number) (Greece), Jan 2008:

Front of card sleeve, scan by Hans Seegers
This CD in a black card sleeve was given away with a 130-page book about Bob from the Greek newspaper called "Ta Nea [The News]". It's a collection of Dylan covers and was supposed to include Girl From The North Country, the duet with Johnny Cash from Nashville Skyline, as printed on the rear of the card sleeve. However, the CD actually contains the original version of the song from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan!

Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.

This French collection of mainly specially-recorded Dylan covers compiled by musician/composer Béatrice Ardisson contains a Dylan track called "Apothecary" (also listed in some sources as "Animals, Birds And Cigarettes") which is Bob's rap outside the pet shop from the 2005 Martin Scorsese No Direction Home documentary (see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 3). The Dylan track is provided "avec l'amiable autorisation de Jeff Rosen [with the friendly authorisation of Jeff Rosen]". For full details, see 2009.

Other artists include Dionne Warwick, Cher, Marianne Faithful, Joan Baez, Trini Lopez and The Seekers, though not the Peter, Paul and Mary cover version above that broke Bob as a songwriter.

Because Bob's performance is a rarity, full details are in 2010.

The compilation includes a posthumous mix of One Too Many Mornings by Johnny Cash and the Avett Brothers, a different take from the version from Feb 1969 with Bob included on the Johnny Cash documentary The Man His World His Music (R-0069, see VHS & DVD 1960s). Bob's solo verses have been replaced by the Avett Brothers but he can still clearly be heard on the choruses. As this is a rarity, for full details of these sets see 2012.

Thanks to Harold Lepidus for news that the Amnesty International benefit album tribute Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International is also to be released as a 2CD set from Starbucks. This set will include One Too Many Mornings by Johnny Cash and the Avett Brothers with Bob on background vocals, but not Bob's own version of Chimes Of Freedom. I have a Universal European 2CD-R promo of this set.

Classic Hits RADI-1181 (Germany) - picture from www.zweitausendeins.de
Thanks to Dirk Krah for news about a German Classic Hits CD release in their "One Song Edition" series with multiple versions of Mr. Tambourine Man - like the 2010 German Classic Hits releases above with 20 versions of Blowin' In The Wind and House Of The Rising Sun, this release has 21 versions of Mr. Tambourine Man including Bob live with The Byrds (wrongly listed as from Montreal, but actually from Los Angeles, 1990) and Bob's solo piano demo of the song (again, wrongly listed as 1961 but actually 1963), from 2010's The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964.

As the 1990 version of Mr. Tambourine Man with the Byrds is a rarity, for full details see 2012.

Thanks to Dirk for verifying the contents of this CD.

This CD in a gatefold Card Sleeve with an eight-page stapled booklet contains seventeen covers by US artists of Bob Dylan songs from the 1980s. However, two of the songs, Wiggle Wiggle and Unbelievable, are actually from 1990's Under The Red Sky. The album also includes a recording of the unreleased song Waiting To Get Beat, a 1985 out-take from Empire Burlesque, by US band Tea Leaf Green. As far as I know, this song is not on any of their albums and exclusive to this compilation.

This original London cast recording of the hit West End show from the Old Vic Theatre featuring Bob's music, written by Conor McPherson, was available on CD from "Isis" magazine at the end of September. Unlike previous efforts to use Bob's work in musical theatre, this show is remarkably successful, and also very moving. The songs cover most of Bob's career from the show's title track from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963 to Duquesne Whistle from Tempest in 2012.
