CBS 7" mono single releases of Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat - the Norwegian sleeve only mentions the B-side Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)

This page contains all 1966 and 1967 7" singles/EPs with Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat. It has been separated from 1966 because of the length of that page. "Blonde On Blonde" album releases with rarities and the major 1966 Dylan 7" singles/EPs with rarities are now listed here:

"Great New Sounds Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2" - 7" mono EPs, CBS 6158 (West Germany), late 1966:

GerEP6158Front.jpg (25158 bytes)
CBS 6158 (West Germany) - front scan by Hans Seegers (both variants)
This second West German mono EP from Blonde On Blonde had Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat and Most Likely You'll Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine) on the A-side and Visions Of Johanna on the B-side. As far as I know this is the only 7" appearance of Visions Of Johanna anywhere worldwide. The rear sleeve is exactly the same as West German EP 6020 with Positively 4th Street, see 1965 Mono 7" Singles & EPs. GerEP6158Back.jpg (27254 bytes)

There are two record label variants, the first has "6158 a" and "6158 b" to the right of the centre hole, the second has "EP 6158" on both sides and "Seite 1" and "Seite 2" (Side 1 and 2) between "GEMA" and "Dwarf Music".

"Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"/"Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine" - 7" promo and commercial mono singles, Columbia 4-44069 (USA), 24 Apr 1967:

Columbia/Legacy/ Sony Music 88875124412 (Europe) - detail of inside page of book 1 (my copy)
Thanks to Ian Woodward for pointing out that the Artist's Contract Card illustrated on the inside page of the 2015 6CD set The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - Bob Dylan 1965-1966 The Cutting Edge Deluxe Edition (printed on the card pocket holding CD3) shows the release date of Columbia 4-44069 as "4/24/67" (24 Apr 1967)! That would make the US release date the same as that of the Canadian and European singles below. This date is confirmed by Peter Coulthard with this scan of a promo copy from radio station WCCS in Connecticut dated "4/25" (25 Apr 1967).

Columbia 4-44069 from late 1966 is included as Columbia/Legacy 88875124402-(SV)9 with the US commercial single labels. The front and rear are from the 1967 West German single release CBS 2700 below.

"Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"/"Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine" - 7" mono promo and commercial singles, CBS 2700 (UK), 5 May 1967:

CBS 2700 (UK) - front scan by Sam C. Visser (promo and commercial releases)

R-0447 Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat - edit (2:20, as opposed to 3:50 for album version)

I originally reported that the UK and Netherlands versions of this single had the unedited album version of the song, but I'm now informed that the UK release had the R-0447 edit too, so it's listed here. Thanks to Robert Kornovich and Roger Ford for confirming this is actually a new mix of the song as well as an edit. The promo release has white CBS labels, the commercial release has orange CBS labels, both came in the same picture sleeve. The rear sleeve has the same design as the front, but has two folded-over flaps and a top cut-out.

Thanks to Rod MacBeath for the CBS UK press release giving the single release date as 5 May 1967.

CBS 2700 (NL) - front scan by Hans Seegers

I originally reported that the UK and Netherlands versions of this single had the unedited album version of the song, but I'm now informed that the UK release (above) had the R-0447 edit too. The Dutch release, however, had a unique fade of the album track at 3:42, even though the A-side is listed at the edit length of 2:20. This means it has a unique R-number:

R-0547 Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat - 7" single version faded at 3:42 (album version is 3:50)

LSPBH7ItalyFront.jpg (28722 bytes)
CBS 2700 (Italy) - front scan by Hans Seegers

This single in a picture sleeve again has the edited A-side, R-0447.

Martin Gayford and Stefan Haras have copies of the Italian single with a promo sticker on each side reading "DISCO CAMPIONE NON VENDIBILE [SAMPLE RECORD NOT FOR SALE]" (the sticker on the B-side of Stefan's copy is now missing). Martin's demo single has the labels switched so that the A-side actually plays Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine. Jim Siddy has a commercial copy that also has the A-side and B-side record labels reversed.

Sergio Mariano Romay points out his copy of the commercial single has stamped matrix numbers: Side 1 - CI 2700 = 1N 19/6/67 (19 Jun 1967), Side 2 - CI 2700 = 2N 19/6/67 (19 Jun 1967). As this is the pressing date, the single must date from Jun 1967.

Thanks to Hans Seegers, Martin Gayford, Stefan Haras, Sergio Mariano Romay and Jim Siddy for information and scans.

R-0447-2 Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat - edit (2:20, as opposed to 3:50 for album version)

This Norwegian release has the same catalogue number as the West German/Dutch/Italian/Danish release above, but the sleeve only lists Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine. The sleeve is a folded single sheet with the reverse printed upside down. The record still has Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat as the A-side and was also sold in Denmark. The Danish release has a separate sleeve with Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat shown as the A-side but contained the Norwegian record. This single was not released in Sweden. It does not have a country of origin on the record labels, but does have the logo of the "NCB" Scandinavian copyright organisation.

Thanks to Olav Langum and Hans Seegers for information and to Hans Seegers for scans.

This version was 10 seconds shorter than the Blonde On Blonde album version (4:56), with a slightly earlier fade out.

CBS/Music-box Greece generic sleeve, scan by Hans Seegers

This Greek single in a generic sleeve has two tracks previously released as A-sides elsewhere in Europe, with Leopard-Skin Bill-Box Hat (R-0447) as the A-side, and Just Like A Woman (R-0471) as the B-side. At this time CBS records were distributed from Athens by a company called "Music-box". The Greek CBS sleeve therefore has the words 'Distributed by "Music-box" Athens' overprinted.

Thanks to Hans Seegers and Manuel García Jara for information and scans.

"Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" - 7" mono EP, CBS EP 6345 (France), May 1967:
This was the last Bob Dylan EP to be released in France. It was available with or without an index tab or languette.

R-0447-5 Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat - edit (2:20, as opposed to 3:50 for album version)

This mono EP has the same catalogue number and tracks as the French EP above. It was released three times with slightly different front sleeves, rear sleeves and record labels.

  1. Front with brown text. Printer's information at rear bottom right. Record labels with "(P) 1967" at top left.
  2. Front with orange text. Printer's information at rear bottom right. Record labels with "(P) 1967" at top left.
  3. Front with orange text. Printer's information at rear bottom centre. Record labels have a brighter orange colour and "(P) 1967" is missing from both sides.

Both rear sleeves say “Gravado em França por DISCOS CBS S.A. [Recorded in France by DISCOS CBS S.A.]” - a rather surprising mistake!
