Bob Dylan at the Movies

Films and TV Series with Dylan Album or Song Titles |
An extracted list from Searching For A Gem of appearances by Bob on films and film soundtrack albums. These also include TV programme appearances and fall into three categories:
Where one or more Bob Dylan tracks appear both in the film and on the film soundtrack album.
Where a Bob Dylan track appears in a film but is not on its soundtrack album.
Where a Bob Dylan track does not appear in a film but is on its soundtrack album (surprisingly enough there are one or two of these).
This list is divided into Feature Films, TV Series and Music Films and includes both regular Dylan album tracks and non-album tracks (rarities). Entries with regular album tracks are in italics. Additions gratefully welcomed! For complete details of all Bob's non-album performances on film and TV, see VHS & DVD. There are many more films and TV series that contain cover versions of Dylan songs, but they are outside the scope of this page. For these, see the "Dylan Cover Albums" site created by the late David Plentus. A new section at the end of this page lists films and TV series with no Dylan content but whose titles are Dylan song or album titles. Many quotes from Dylan songs have also been used in films and TV dialogue without Dylan's music, but I do not list these.
All films and TV series are from the USA except where stated differently.
Revised: 30 October, 2024.

Music Films
Films and TV Series with Bob Dylan Song or Album Titles
These films/TV series have no Dylan connection other than the title. This means Band Of The Hand, The Hurricane (2000) and I'm Not There are not listed here as they have Dylan content and are listed above under "Feature Films". The fun is deciding if they were inspired by Dylan songs, may have inspired Dylan songs, or have nothing to do with Bob at all! In the interest of keeping the list manageable, only one image will be included for each different film (some have been reissued several times with different artwork), although different films with the same title are listed.
Songs Written by Bob (including Traveling Wilbury Songs) and Dylan Album Titles
However, "Isis" #175 includes Internet reports from Scott Warmuth and Fred Bals that the picture originally appeared on the front of the American pulp magazine "Spicy-Adventure Stories", Jan 1939. It's by Harry Lemon Parkhurst and illustrates a story called "Daughters of Doom", written by E. Hoffmann Price. Harry Lemon Parkhurst (1876-1962) was a very prolific illustrator for more than 50 years of pulp magazines and comics, especially for "Spicy-Adventure Stories". Edgar Hoffmann Price (1898-1988) was an equally prolific writer of pulp magazine stories, best known for his contributions to the fantasy magazine "Weird Tales", where he collaborated with H. P. Lovecraft. He also used other names such as Clark Nelson and Walter Cook.
Songs Covered by Bob
Bob's Christmas Songs from "Christmas In The Heart" (2009)
Bob's Frank Sinatra Songs from "Shadows In The Night" (2015) and "Fallen Angels" (2016)
That Old Black Magic and Come Rain Or Come Shine have both been used as the titles of several episodes of TV shows, but not of a feature film.
Thanks to Stefan Giuliani, Dag Braathen, Stuart Moore, Manuel García Jara, David Muñoz and Jim Paboucek for contributions.
