The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 [Rare And Unreleased] 1961-1991
This page is part of a list of original releases by release date of international commercially-released regular stereo Dylan albums. They do not contain rarities or obscurities and are not eligible for the Searching For A Gem list. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo releases of regular albums are now listed here and no longer in the former yearly Promo sections. For releases of this album in CBS/Columbia multi-packs, see International Album Releases (Regular) - Multi-Packs. |

This 12" x 12" box (my copy) also has a 12" x 6" "long box" booklet as for the 5LP release above. The box may have had a "3 CASSETTES" sticker, now long gone. The cassettes were made in Holland and are held with the booklet in a moulded plastic tray inside the box. Each cassette has a folded insert and the cassettes are black with red CBS paper labels. The three cassette inserts have the same design as the three CD front inserts (front sleeves of LPs 1, 2 and 4).

This very rare CBS/Sony set was made in Holland for the Spanish market but very few copies were produced, the regular European release above was much more common in Spain. The Columbia logos on the rear and spine of the Dutch box have been covered by black CBS/Sony stickers. There was no front sticker. The records have red CBS/Sony labels and were also made in Holland, with the same picture inner sleeves.

This really is a boxed set! It comes in a blue or green wooden box with gold fittings and with a special certificate (shown below). The box was made in the UK. This item is very rare and boxes which become available command a high price! This set not only has the edited version of Series Of Dreams at 5:37 but also included a promo CD single 5 Tracks From The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, Columbia SAMPCD 1476, see 1991.

"The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 [Live And Unreleased] 1961-1991" - 3CD jewel case edition, Columbia/Sony Music 88697732882 (Europe), Dec 2010:
This set comes in a double-width jewel case with a reduced booklet. It is dated 2010 on the rear insert and the CDs. The booklet contains all the text of previous releases, but only one photo, that of Bob lighting a cigarette somewhere in New York. The same picture is in the original long booklet on page 24. The alternate set uses the 1997 jewel case sized booklet front picture as the album front. About 200 were shipped before the error was discovered and the set re-released with the correct front photo. The booklet in the revised release has the same front picture as the front insert, so the passport picture is missing from this release.
Thanks to Arie de Reus and Riku Halinen for information and scans.

Japanese characters indicating a sample in the clear centres of the CDs
themselves. Each CD is in a separate jewel case with a front and rear insert.
The rear of the box and the three rear inserts have the date "D-7-1" (1 Jul
1991). Thanks to Sheiji Murata for details of the year date codes
used on Japanese CD releases from 1984 up to Aug 1991, see
Index of International Releases by Country. Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and to Hervé from France and Wil Gielen for further information and pictures. |
