There will be a standard 2CD set The Bootleg Series Vol. 13 - Trouble No More 1979-1981 (Live) and an 8CD+DVD set The Bootleg Series Vol. 13 - Trouble No More 1979-1981 (Deluxe Edition) released on 3 Nov 2017. CDs 1 and 2 of the Deluxe Edition are the same as the 2CD set. There will also be a 4LP set with the same tracklist as the 2CD set that also includes the CDs, also released on 3 Nov 2017.
The Japanese
editions were released on 8 Nov 2017 on Blu-Spec CD2 discs. |

Thanks to Aaron Derfel and Harald Sigvartsen for reminding me that the front photo was previously used for the sleeve of the Spanish 7" single release of Heart of Mine/Let It Be Me, see 1981. This single is shown on page 91 of the "Pressing On" book with the Deluxe Edition. Thanks to Sonny Boy McFitzson for information that "Trouble No More" is the title of a 1955 song by McKinley Morganfield (Muddy Waters). Bob performed this during his marathon session at Toad's Place, New Haven, CT, on 12 Jan 1990. Muddy's "Trouble No More" is a variation of "Someday Baby Blues," recorded by Sleepy John Estes in 1935, a song that has been interpreted and recorded by numerous artists. Muddy Waters calls his version "Trouble No More" and Big Maceo titled his version "Worried Life Blues." Bob's later version is Someday Baby from Modern Times.

this performance is wrongly listed in the booklet of the 2CD set and
Book 1 of the Deluxe Edition as "Oslo". Drammen is a
town about 50km west of Oslo, and the only location where Bob performed
in Norway that year. A ticket for the Drammen concert is shown on the
right side of the insert in the standard edition, and in the Deluxe
Edition on pages 64 and 104 of the "Pressing On" book.

Chronologies, Shot Of Love was filmed at Palais des Sports, Avignon, France, 25
Jul 1981, and is the same performance as on Disc 2, track 10. According to
Stephen Vallely a post on the Steve Hoffman Forum identifies When He Returns and
Precious Angel as being from Massey Hall, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 19 Apr 1980,
the same as Disc 5, tracks 5 and 9. Are You Ready? was filmed at Kleinhans Music Hall, Buffalo, NY,
30 Apr 1980, the same as Disc 2, track 8. The other live tracks do not match
audio performances on Discs 1-5 , and may have been filmed at Buffalo or on one of the Massey Hall nights (18-20 Apr 1980).

This 4LP set has the same track list as
the 2CD set below and also includes the 2CDs as shown.
As well as the 4LPs and the 2CDs, the box also contains a 12" booklet. Each
record comes in its own picture sleeve and an inner sleeve with a historic
Columbia Records design. There are some differences from the European release below: slightly different front sticker with "88985454661S1" at the bottom; different copyright text on the rear of the box; the CDs have different numbering to the left of the centre hole (endings "D1"/"D2") and US copyright text in the circumference text at the bottom. The record labels also have US copyright text. |

As well as the 2CD set there is a Deluxe Edition with 8CDs plus a DVD. It comes in a hard card 8.5" x 8" box with two books, one with details of the tracks and containing the nine discs in card pockets, the other with photographs of the period 1979-81. Sonny Boy McFitzson's scans are from the Japanese Deluxe Edition, which uses the US box and books. Bill Hester's copy is the actual US release. |

The box of my UK copy has a glossy paper wrapper stuck over the rear that extends over the bottom and lower part of the front. This is so that the "PG" (Parental Guidance) UK film rating codes (white text in a yellow and white triangle) are added to the front and rear artwork as shown in the detail scans (not stickers). This wrapper is not present on other European copies. However, Gerd Rundel's German copy has an "FSK 0" sticker on the box front at bottom left which means that the DVD is not age-restricted and has no risky content (“FSK ab 0 freigegeben [allowed from age 0]"). The code “FSK” means “Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle [Optional Self-Control]". It refers to the German law called “Jugendschutzgesetz [Law for the protection of youth]". Like the 4LP set, some German vendors are selling the set with five Dylan postcards. |

The Japanese Deluxe Edition was released on 8 Nov 2017 with eight Blu-Spec CD2 discs and a DVD. The price was ￥30,000+tax=￥32,400. This is a Limited Edition but the numbers are unknown. The Japanese release uses the US box and books, which are shown above. The discs were made in Japan. There is also a 108 page Japanese booklet and a separate two sided insert - these are held inside a card sleeve, which takes the place of the usual obi, and the whole package is sealed inside a polythene bag! |

The separate black paper insert has Ben Rollins' foreword from the "Pressing On" book (Book 2), translated by Heckel Sugano. On the reverse are the producers' acknowledgements. The 108 page Japanese booklet has translations of the entire Book 1 including the DVD credit page, with 1979-81 chronicles from Olof's Chronology Files, both by Heckel Sugano, plus an essay by Kenta Hagiwara, mainly about videos like Saturday Night Live, Bob's Grammy performance and the included DVD. It's just his impressions on the Gospel Years, not information. Page.103 of the Japanese booklet says: "Printed are registered official lyrics, therefore they are not always as actually sung. Otherwise transcribed and translated by Kyoko Maruyama."

no Sony Music logo and different copyright text on the rear of the slipcase

The front insert is again a single folded sheet. Harald Sigvartsen notes that the photo on the reverse of the rear insert is exclusive to the standard edition. Gerd Rundel has found a copy with an Italian "SIAE" copyright sticker on the rear of the slipcase. |

bobdylan.com is selling the Deluxe Edition with an exclusive bonus 2CD set recorded live at San Diego, CA, on 28 Nov 1979. The San Diego tracks in the Live and Deluxe Editions come from the previous night, 27 Nov 1979, as do two in this set, see track list above. The two CDs come in a folded card sleeve. Harald Sigvartsen notes that the photographer of the front photo is not credited.
