Open gatefold sleeve of UK "Souvenir Edition" 7" single of Highway 61 Revisited from the
Real Live album, 1984 (my copy)
This is part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"Sweetheart Like You"/"License To Kill" - 7" single, CBS A4175 (NL/Norway), Jan 1984:
"Jokerman"/"License To Kill" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 4055 (UK), Apr 1984:
CBS A4055 (UK) - front scan by Kenneth Robson |
The promo singles have a 4:30 edit of the A-side (R-0161), for full
details see 1984. The B-side is the full length
version. Stefan Haras has a copy of the UK promo single that is
significantly different from mine in that almost all the black text elements
are differently placed. The commercial singles have the full album version from Infidels (6:12). The UK rear sleeve lists UK dates for the 1984 tour. The commercial record occurs in three variants: two have paper labels, and the third has orange/brown injection labels. The first variant with paper labels has only "BOB DYLAN" set vertically to the left of the centre hole, the second has extra text below the name. |

"Jokerman"/"License To Kill" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 4055 (Spain), Apr 1984:
CBS A4055 (Spain) - front of sleeve (my promo copy - commercial copy is the same) |
These two Spanish singles have the same front sleeve
but the rear sleeves and record labels are different. The promo single again has the 4:30 edit of the A-side (R-0161), for full details see 1984. The Jokerman radio edit song length on the Spanish single is misprinted as 4:00 but it is the 4:30 edit (I played it and timed it!). I can only assume that the intention was to use the 4:05 edit (R-0605), see below and full details of which can be found in 1984. |

CBS A4595 (UK) - A-side in "Back Tracks" sleeve (my copy, "Big Ben Music") |
This 1984 single was a re-release of a
1976 CBS UK single with the same tracks in the "Golden Decade 1967-76"
series (see
International Singles: 7"
Singles & EPs 1976). This time it had new catalogue number CBS A4595 and was part of the CBS "Back Tracks" series with unique black labels. There are two variants in the same sleeve, the first has the songs credited to "Big Ben Music Ltd." and the second has the songs credited to "Warner Brothers Music Ltd.". This was the only Dylan single in the series, although it also included Mr. Tambourine Man/All I Really Want To Do by The Byrds (CBS A4575). |

For a promo single with an edit of the A-side, see 1985 and above. Both demonstration copies shown have "DEMONSTRATION - NOT FOR SALE" stamped over the barcode on the B-side: on Tom Willems' copy it's upwards and on Stefan Haras' copy it's downwards. Michel Pomarede has found a copy on eBay with a jukebox strip. The Canadian commercial single has the edited A-side, so is listed in 1985. |

|
This promo single is the same as the acetate above, with an edited

other. The tracks are actually called "ADJ" (edited version) and "A" (full
version). Full details are in 1985.

"Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?)"/"We Better Talk This

For the Tight Connection video release on laserdisc, see the
VHS & DVD
1980s page.
This single was previously on the 1985 page, because the A-side was reported to be a single edit. However, these commercial 7" singles do not contain a rarity because the song is 5:20, identical to the Empire Burlesque album track. For the singles that do have the 3:45 edited version, see 1985. The B-side of this single was We Better Talk This Over, the regular album track from 1978's Street-Legal (a strange choice, another track from Empire Burlesque would have been expected). |

CBS A 6303 (Spain) - detail of rear, scan by Hans Seegers (promo and

The one-sided promo single has the album track from Empire Burlesque (5:20) on the A-side. It has white promo labels and a blank label on the B-side. Stuart Moore's copy came in a black CBS sleeve, although Hans Seegers says the promo single was normally found in the commercial single sleeve with a promo stamp as shown. Hans' Spanish promo single came in the same sleeve as the commercial release with a promo stamp on the rear sleeve.

This promo five-track sampler 12" record made in Holland plays at 45
rpm! It's really a 12" single, but I'm classifying it as an LP instead
because it has "LP" in the sleeve catalogue number. (The catalogue number is
"SAMP LP 1052" on the rear sleeve but only "SAMP 1052" on the record
labels.) Full details are in

The copy owned by Stefan Haras has a CBS/Sony Spain inner sleeve which cannot be contemporary - Discos CBS Spain did not use the CBS/Sony name until 1991. Evertwhere else in Europe changed from "CBS" to "Columbia" in 1991, but RCA still owned the Columbia name in Spain.

The B-side of the single is Clean Cut Kid, also from Empire Burlesque. Both tracks are the full-length album versions. The Australian commercial release and the New Zealand releases came without a picture sleeve. The New Zealand promo has a white sticker on the A-side.
Thanks to Bill Hester for the information on this last Dylan 7" single to be issued by CBS in New Zealand. (The only later releases were by the Travelling Wilburys on Warner Bros, released in New Zealand but manufactured in Australia.) Thanks to Hans Seegers for information and scans.
