This is part of a separate multi-year list by release date of international (now including the USA, which was once listed separately) promo and commercially-released stereo 7" and 12" singles that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know many are not included on any other Internet site. Special thanks to Hans Seegers for many of these items! Stereo promo versions of commercially released singles that were formerly listed in the Promotional Items sections of the yearly pages are now listed here. I would also like to include cassette singles here, but I don't have any, and none have been notified to me so far.

If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

"Jokerman"/"License To Kill" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 4055 (UK), Apr 1984:

CBS A4055 (UK) - front scan by Kenneth Robson
The promo singles have a 4:30 edit of the A-side (R-0161), for full details see 1984. The B-side is the full length version. Stefan Haras has a copy of the UK promo single that is significantly different from mine in that almost all the black text elements are differently placed.

The commercial singles have the full album version from Infidels (6:12). The UK rear sleeve lists UK dates for the 1984 tour. The commercial record occurs in three variants: two have paper labels, and the third has orange/brown injection labels. The first variant with paper labels has only "BOB DYLAN" set vertically to the left of the centre hole, the second has extra text below the name.

JokerSpainPromoFront.JPG (27964 bytes)
CBS A4055 (Spain) - front of sleeve (my promo copy - commercial copy is the same)
These two Spanish singles have the same front sleeve but the rear sleeves and record labels are different.

The promo single again has the 4:30 edit of the A-side (R-0161), for full details see 1984. The Jokerman radio edit song length on the Spanish single is misprinted as 4:00 but it is the 4:30 edit (I played it and timed it!). I can only assume that the intention was to use the 4:05 edit (R-0605), see below and full details of which can be found in 1984.

CBS A4595 (UK) - A-side in "Back Tracks" sleeve (my copy, "Big Ben Music")
This 1984 single was a re-release of a 1976 CBS UK single with the same tracks in the "Golden Decade 1967-76" series (see International Singles: 7" Singles & EPs 1976).

This time it had new catalogue number CBS A4595 and was part of the CBS "Back Tracks" series with unique black labels. There are two variants in the same sleeve, the first has the songs credited to "Big Ben Music Ltd." and the second has the songs credited to "Warner Brothers Music Ltd.". This was the only Dylan single in the series, although it also included Mr. Tambourine Man/All I Really Want To Do by The Byrds (CBS A4575).

Bulg7Front1.jpg (25467 bytes)
Balkanton BTK 3802 - front scan by Hans Seegers (first release)

This is the only Bob Dylan single released in Bulgaria, and was given away with the Bulgarian language edition of the lyrics book "Writings And Drawings". There were two releases in slightly different sleeves. The first release came with a folded poster, the re-release did not. The front of the second release picture sleeve has "BOB DYLAN" in Cyrillic characters in white, the rear of the sleeve is pink on both sleeves. The single is in the series "поети с китари [Poets with guitars]" as stated above "BOB DYLAN". The tracks are the normal stereo versions from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. The record is the same for both releases and has stamped matrix numbers: A-side - "BTK 3802 A", B-side - "BTK 3802 B1". The record of Sergio Mariano Romay's first release copy also has "84" handwritten in the A-side vinyl.

Tight7UKPromoSideA.jpg (23229 bytes)
CBS A 6303 (UK) - promo "ADJ"-side scan by Kenneth Robson (R-0166)

This promo single is the same as the acetate above, with an edited version of the track on one side and the full-length album version on the other. The tracks are actually called "ADJ" (edited version) and "A" (full version). Full details are in 1985. For the commercial single with We Better Talk This Over on the B-side, see below.

Thanks to Kenneth Robson for information and scans.

"Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?)"/"We Better Talk This Over" - 7" promo and commercial singles, CBS A 6303 (UK/NL/Italy), 24 May 1985:
For the Tight Connection video release on laserdisc, see the
VHS & DVD 1980s page.

Tight7UKFront.JPG (28359 bytes)
CBS A 6303 (UK) - front (my copy)

This single was previously on the 1985 page, because the A-side was reported to be a single edit. However, these commercial 7" singles do not contain a rarity because the song is 5:20, identical to the Empire Burlesque album track. For the singles that do have the 3:45 edited version, see 1985. The B-side of this single was We Better Talk This Over, the regular album track from 1978's Street-Legal (a strange choice, another track from Empire Burlesque would have been expected).

Stuart Moore's copy came in a black CBS sleeve, although Hans Seegers says the promo single was normally found in the commercial single sleeve with a promo stamp as shown. Hans' Spanish promo single came in the same sleeve as the commercial release with a promo stamp on the rear sleeve.

CBS/Sony 07SP 901 (Japan) - front scan by Hans Seegers (commercial release)
Promo copies of this single were available with different promo stamps on the front of the sleeve.

Han's Seegers' A-side record label has the Japanese characters for "Promo" rubberstamped on to a regular record with orange CBS/Sony labels, not the usual white promo labels. The B-side is the same as the regular commercial copy. Jim Siddy's copy has these characters printed (not stamped) on both sides.

"Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?)"/"We Better Talk This Over" - 7" stereo single, CBS CS-10082 (Philippines), 1985:

CBS CS-10082 (Philippines) - A-side scan by Hans Seegers
This incredibly rare single has orange/yellow CBS labels and was manufactured in the Philippines for CBS by OctoArts International Inc. Several Dylan albums were manufactured in the Philippines by Mareco Inc. and Blackgold Records Corp, and the single comes in a generic dark blue/white sleeve made by them on behalf of CBS/Sony Japan. The record looks as if it was sent out as a promo from the black lettering in marker pen on both sides.

The very rare Zimbabwe single looks like a promo but is actually an official CBS commercial release. This cheaply-printed label style was also used for several Zimbabwe Dylan LPs. There are no track times, but this is again the full-length version of the song, not the 3:45 edit.

This 12" promo has a 4:18 edited version of the song on both sides. Unlike the LP version, this version of the song has a "disco mix" intro and has been cut down to the verses 1, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10. For full details, see 1985.

This promo five-track sampler 12" record made in Holland plays at 45 rpm! It's really a 12" single, but I'm classifying it as an LP instead because it has "LP" in the sleeve catalogue number. (The catalogue number is "SAMP LP 1052" on the rear sleeve but only "SAMP 1052" on the record labels.) Full details are in International Album Releases (Dylan-Only Compilations) 1980s.

It has Abandoned Love; Caribbean Wind; Tangled Up In Blue; Lay Lady, Lay and Up To Me, all from Biograph (see 1985).

The copy owned by Stefan Haras has a CBS/Sony Spain inner sleeve which cannot be contemporary - Discos CBS Spain did not use the CBS/Sony name until 1991. Evertwhere else in Europe changed from "CBS" to "Columbia" in 1991, but RCA still owned the Columbia name in Spain.

"You Wanna Ramble"/"Under Your Spell" - 7" test pressing, CBS BD-IL 717 (Israel), 1986:

CBS BD-IL 717 (Israel) - front and A-side picture from eBay
This 7" single on clear vinyl in a yellow picture sleeve purports to be a test pressing from CBS Israel. However no test pressing was ever produced in clear vinyl and the picture sleeve does not even have the CBS logo. It is completely fake!

Thanks to François Guillez for information.
