This is a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released Various Artist stereo compilation albums released in 1997 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only Bob Dylan performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo-only Various Artist compilation albums with Dylan tracks and Radio Station Albums are included here also. Other International Albums and Compilations are now here:

This cancer charity CD is one of a series released in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) of Bob's home state of Minnesota in association with radio station KTCZ 91.1 FM. This 95-track 3CD compilation for radio stations from Sony Japan includes a 1:33 excerpt from Like A Rolling Stone from Highway 61 Revisited (the 1996 Japanese release Sony Records SRCS 9074). This promo compilation CD is a selection of from the ten "The Best Of" compilations released by Sony Records Japan on 21 Jun 1997. Bob appears on two of the albums (see below). His contribution to this sampler is Forever Young, the slow version from Planet Waves by Bob Dylan and The Band, which is actually taken from The Best Of American Rock (Sony Records SRCS 8332), listed below. This promo CD comes in a CD single jewel case with a folded card insert. The reverse of the insert is plain white. Thanks to Wil Gielen for information and scans.

Bob's contribution is Forever Young, the slow version from Planet Waves by Bob Dylan and The Band. The album also contains My Back Pages by The Byrds. Bob also appears on The Best Of Singer Songwriter, SRCS 8335 below, but not on the other eight compilations. Wil Gielen's copy is a promo, with a promo sticker on the rear insert and the text "SAMPLE" in the clear centre of the CD, missing from the commercial CD.

This 16-track compilation for radio stations from Sony Japan includes Like A Rolling Stone from Highway 61 Revisited. The track is timed at 6:08 instead of the expected 5:59/6:00 and plays at 6:08. The CD jewel case insert cover features a cartoon of Coolio.

The interior features monochrome reproductions of each of the album sleeves from which these tracks are taken, plus a short comment on each in Japanese. The rear insert has the track listings in Japanese and English. The title is a word play on the then current Sony advertising slogan for their audio/video products "It's a Sony"! The CD has a green, cream and white obi with black and yellow text and price ¥2,548. The obi and rear sleeve are dated "97-7-21" (21 Jul 1997) with a withdrawal date of "99-7-20" (20 Jul 1999). Wil Gielen's copy is a promo with a numbered stamp on the rear insert covering the barcode. The promo CD has the text "SAMPLE" in the clear centre. "Groovy Rock Caravan" was a group of Japanese music writers, artists ands DJs who compiled this CD. Their names are listed on the obi and the reverse of the rear insert, and include the famous Japanese cartoonist and Dylan fan Jun Miura, who compiled the promo 2CD compilation Dylan Ga Rock (see 1993 and 2010), and also compiled the soundtrack album for the 2003 independent Japanese movie "Iden & Tity", see Dylan-only Compilations 2000s, based on a series of comic books by Jun Miura. Jun Miura also used this artwork for the Japanese edition of The Essential Bob Dylan, see 2000. Jun Miura also created the artwork for the Japanese release of The Best Of Bob Dylan, see 1997, and the 2003 Japanese release of The Essential Bob Dylan, see International Album Releases.

This compilation was #28 in a series called "Il Disco del Mese [Disc of the Month]" from Italian publishers Edizione la Repubblica. It came with a book titled "Country Rock - la musica della nuova frontera [the music of the new frontier]". Bob's contribution was Blowin' In The Wind from The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, a track that can in no way be described as "country rock"!

This promo compilation is part of a series with tracks from new releases, released approximately monthly by Sony Music in Denmark between the late 1990s and the mid-2000s. The CD comes in a regular jewel case without inserts. Bob's contribution is three tracks from Time Out Of Mind: Love Sick, Trying To Get To Heaven and Make You Feel My Love. The CD has a date of 29 Sep 1997, this is the commercial release date of the material. This 1997 Dutch promo CD in a card sleeve contains Love Sick (album version) from Time Out of Mind, and was probably distributed to radio stations. It was released by Conamus, the Institute for the promotion of Dutch music, and 15 out of the 18 tracks are by Dutch artists (although Mac and Katie Kissoon, originally from Port of Spain, Trinidad, WI, were based in the Netherlands at the time). From the front sleeve, translated from Dutch: "The CD-service is an initiative of Conamus, the Edison Foundation and the organisation of local broadcasters (OLON) with the support of BUMA/STEMRA and the Mega Top 100, to promote national products." This promo set, compiled by Charlie Springer of Warner Bros Records, includes Winterlude from New Morning (track 20). The CD comes in a three-panel Eco-Pak snap case. There is a stapled booklet and a single-sided insert explaining that The Christmas Song by Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole, listed on the rear insert and in the booklet, could not ultimately be included on the CD. This song was later recorded by Bob for the 2008 album Christmas In The Heart.
