This page contains items that aren't eligible for the main Searching For A Gem or International Stereo Releases lists because Bob does not personally perform on them, but are nevertheless of interest to Dylan collectors. There's no specific qualification for inclusion other than I have the item or it's been notified to me by a contributor as being worthy of inclusion. This is not intended to be a comprehensive section on Dylan Covers. The late Dave Plentus' excellent Dylan Cover Albums site is now kept alive on Expecting Rain by Karl-Erik Anderson here and these pages are not intended to match or replace it. Because Bob's songs gain an extra resonance when sung by women, this page includes notable female cover albums (and a small number of other releases) contributed by Dylan collectors. The other Honourable Mentions pages are listed below.
If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!

Liberty LEP 2233 (UK) - mono EP front scan by Manuel García Jara (EP with the four Dylan-related songs) |
The four Dylan-related songs are Blowin' In The Wind, Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, Walkin' Down The Line (then unreleased by Bob), and Baby, Let Me Follow You Down from Bob's first album. All four of these tracks were released on a UK EP, see Blowin' In The Wind Covers 1963-65 and re-released on her 1965 Imperial album In The Wind, see below.

Imperial Records LP-9296 (USA) - mono LP front picture from www.discogs.com |
As well as her cover of Blowin' In The Wind which inspired the album title, this album includes Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, Walkin' Down The Line, and Baby, Let Me Follow You Down from Bob's first album. These are all taken from her 1963 Liberty album above - in fact this 1965 album includes ten of the twelve tracks on the 1963 album. |

These two mono EPs licensed by Vanguard each have three Dylan covers.
TFE.18012/AVRS EP 15658/VX-991: A-side - With God On Our Side (from the revised Vanguard release of Joan Baez In Concert/Part 2, my UK Fontana copy doesn't have it); B-side - Farewell Angelina (from Farewell Angelina); It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (from Farewell Angelina).
TFE.18013: A-side - A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall (from Farewell Angelina); B-side - Daddy, You've Been On My Mind (from Farewell Angelina); It Ain't Me, Babe (from Joan Baez 5).
Ronald Born's Turkish copy of TFE.18012 is on the Philips label. The New Zealand Vanguard release was made by Philips.

Joan Baez - "Farewell Angelina" - mono vinyl 7" EPs: Amadeo AVRS EP 15806 (France)/Amadeo HAM 275-05 (Spain)/Vanguard HVA 477-05 (Spain), 1965:
These mono EPs licensed by Vanguard have her cover of Bob's then unreleased song on the A-side and different other songs. In Spain, the EP "Buen Viaje, Angelina [Farewell Angelina]" was released in the same picture sleeve simultaneously under two different licenses and with two different catalogue numbers: Amadeo (HAM 257-05) and Vanguard itself (HVA 477-05), even though they were manufactured and distributed by the same company (Hispavox). Also shown is the French Amadeo release of the 1965 US Vanguard LP (VSD-79200). Farewell Angelina also appeared in a live version from 1983 on her Vanguard anthology Rare, Live & Classic, which has several performances with Bob, see 1993.
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and scans.
Joan Baez - "Joan Baez" - stereo vinyl release, Vanguard C 104/7 (NL), 1968:
This was an exclusive compilation made by Vanguard for "Boek en Plaat [Book and Record]", a Dutch mail order club. (A different Spanish mail order club with the same name, "DiscoLibro", released an exclusive edition of Desire.) This album has the "Boek en Plaat" logo on the rear sleeve, but not on the record labels, as was usual for records made for this club. It includes three Dylan covers on side 2: Farewell, Angelina, Daddy, You Been On My Mind and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (tracks 1-3), but the most interesting track on this record is We Shall Overcome (Side 1, track 1) credited as performed by "Joan Baez accompanying herself on the guitar with Bob Dylan". Joan Baez sings and plays guitar, but there is also an ensemble vocal - Bob must be singing background vocals here. There is no information for this track, but it is on fact the performance from Joan Baez In Concert Part 2 (see Honourable Mentions), not the live performance taken from the Newport Folk Festival from the Vanguard album Evening Concerts At Newport Vol. 1 (see 1964) as previously listed.
Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and scans.
Joan Baez - "Any Day Now" - stereo vinyl 2LP set: Vanguard VSD 79306-7 (USA), 1968; CD release: Vanguard/Ace VMD 79741 (UK), 2005:
Vanguard VSD 79306-7 (USA) - front of gatefold sleeve, picture from www.discogs.com |
This double LP compilation in a gatefold sleeve was notable for including Dylan songs that were unreleased by Bob at the time, namely the early songs Walkin' Down The Line and The Walls Of Red Wing, the Basement Tapes songs You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, Tears Of Rage and I Shall Be Released, plus the still unreleased Love Is Just A Four Letter Word from 1964 (see Starlight In The East: Bob Dylan’s Unreleased Songs). The records come in picture inner sleeves, both the same. |

This album also includes Love Is Just A Four Letter Word although the only other Dylan cover is I Pity The Poor Immigrant. |
Joan Baez - "Baez Sings Dylan" - compilation CD release: Vanguard 79512-2 (USA), 1998:
This album collects twenty of her Dylan covers, again including Love Is Just A Four Letter Word. The 1997 Vanguard compilation Joan Baez Live At Newport includes her live versions of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, together with duets with Bob on It Ain't Me, Babe and With God On Our Side. For details see 1997.

CD1 also contains Joan's covers of I Shall Be Released, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, House Of The Risin' Sun (released by Bob on Bob Dylan in 1962), It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and Farewell Angelina. CD2 contains Diamonds And Rust, Joan's song about Bob, plus her covers of Don't Think Twice It's All Right, I Pity The Poor Immigrant, Dear Landlord and Love Is Just A Four Letter Word.

RCA Victor LPM-3324 (USA, 1963) - mono LP picture from www.discogs.com |
This album by Odetta was noticeable for including covers of several songs then unreleased by Bob including Long Ago Far Way and Long Time Gone, both now officially released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 - The Witmark Demos 1962-1964 in Oct 2010. The picture on the rear of the 2000 CD front insert is from her 1963 RCA Victor album Odetta Sings Folk Songs, which included Blowin' In The Wind, not on the 1965 album. For Odetta 7" mono EPs with covers of Blowin' In The Wind see Blowin' In The Wind Covers 1963-65. Cher - "All I Really Want To Do" - 7" mono EPs: Polydor International 27771 (France)/Liberty LEP 4039L (Spain), 1965:

Over", La Voz de su Amo [HMV]/EMI EPL 14.240 (Spain), 1965; "Morningtown Ride",
La Voz de su Amo (HMV)/EMI EPL 14.334 (Spain), 1966:
These are included here because Judith Durham was the lead singer.
Two EPs with this material were released in Spain, the first with The Times They Are A-Changin' in 1965 and the other with the three other tracks of the 1965 UK EP including Don't Think Twice, It's All Right in 1966 with the front design of their 1966 LP Come The Day (which has no Dylan material). For legal reasons the EPs were published in Spain by EMI through another subsidiary ("La Voz de su Amo" = "His Master's Voice").

Linda Gayle - "Maggie's Farm"/"Got My Mojo Working" - mono 7" single releases, Columbia 4-43462 (USA/Canada), Nov 1965; "Linda Gayle" - 7" mono EP release, CBS 5993 (Portugal), 1966:
Columbia 4-43462 (USA) - 7" single A-side picture from www.discogs.com |
Linda Gayle is not Linda Gail Lewis, the
sister of Jerry Lee Lewis who also recorded an album with Van Morrison. She
was an obscure rhythm and blues/country female singer who recorded an
excellent cover of Maggie's Farm released in Nov 1965 and produced by none
other than Bob Johnston! Manuel says "Bob Johnston captures the same
spirit of Highway 61 Revisited recorded only a month before this
single!" The two singles recorded by Linda Gayle for Columbia
Records were compiled and released in Portugal as a very rare EP from CBS in
1966. Curiously, the catalogue number of this EP is 5993, the consecutive
Portuguese release after Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited EP (CBS 5992). Thanks to Manuel García Jara for information and scans. |

Roberta Flack - "Killing Me Softly With His Song"/"Just Like A Woman" - stereo vinyl 7" single: Atlantic/Discos Teal ATS 597 (Angola), 1973:
Manuel's second copy shown has a third rear sleeve design and a second record label design - Just Like A Woman and "Atlantic" to the right of the centre hole are now correct, but the label has been printed at the wrong size so that "Atlantic" to the right of the centre hole is truncated to "Atlant" and the circumference text is almost entirely missing (some is just visible on the right edge).
