Notes from Heckel Sugano:
★Bob Dylan's first visit to Japan in 1978 was officially
released worldwide as a double live album called AT BUDOKAN. ★The original
24-channel analogue multi-tapes from the 28 February and 1 March 1978 shows were
discovered in 2007. ★We tried his management and failed again and again. In
15 years we finally got permission to release it. ★The original AT BUDOKAN
was released on 21 November 1978, and this time on 15 November 2023, almost 45
years later! ★An album of Bob Dylan, Nobel Prize winner for literature and one of
rock's most important artists, has come true through a Japan-led, Japan-specific
project. ★This will be the greatest reissue project in the history of
international music in Japan, and a project that has been over 15 years in
progress. ★And a worldwide release is also confirmed (17 Nov). At this stage the
4CD box will be exported from Japan, the 2LP set will be pressed overseas, the 8LP
set will be only available in Japan on 15 Nov).
Producers: Heckel Sugano ( the director for CBS/Sony
International 1978) and Tetsuya Shiraki (the current director for Sony Music International)
Remixed in 2023, from 24 channel tapes. Remixed by Tomo'o "Tom" Suzuki (the
original 1978 engineer). Remastered by Akihito Yoshikawa for STUDIO Dede.
Lacquer Cutting for Vinyl: Katsutoshi Kitamura for MIXER'S LAB.
|
The set includes a
60-page colour photography booklet with detailed essays by Heckel Sugano, Edna
Gundersen, Tetsuya Shiraki, Yasufumi Amatatsu and Eiji Ogura (who
appears at the beginning of the complete Bobfest telecast, 30-31 Dec
1992). Photos by Hirosuke Katsuyama, Joel Bernstein, Koh Hasebe.
Designer: Teruhisa Tajima (the original 1978 designer) |

The 4CD box comes in a 12" x 12" slipcase with a wraparound obi

sleeve containing the four CDs in a tray inside. The CDs are
numbered SICP 6540 to 6543, so the CD gatefold sleeve is

This 2LP set is a
compilation of sixteen previously unreleased tracks from the
4CD/8LP set. There will not be
a CD release.
The records come in a gatefold sleeve with
picture inner sleeves and a 12" four page folded insert.
As far as I know this set was made in
the USA. The inner sleeves have the same design for both
records but are different because they have "19658843791SV1" and
"19658843791SV2" at the bottom of the two fronts.
The copyright text in the circumference of the record labels is
different from that of the European and Japanese record labels (see below). |

The European release has a red Sony Music logo on the rear of the gatefold sleeve
at bottom left, not present on the rear sleeve of the US
release,
and different copyright text.
The insert and inner sleeves have the
same designs as those of the US and Japanese releases. Unlike
the US inner sleeves, they have
"19658843791" at the bottom of both fronts.
The records were made in the EU and have different copyright
text from the US and Japanese releases. |
