This is a separate multi-year list by release date of commercially-released Various Artist stereo compilation albums released in 2009 that have been referred to me but do not qualify for my Searching For A Gem list because they contain only Bob Dylan performances which are available on officially released Dylan albums. Nevertheless, their interest value or scarcity means they're worth listing here - as far as I know some are not included on any other Internet site. Promo-only Various Artist compilation albums with Dylan tracks are now included in this list. Other International Albums and Compilations are now here:
There must be hundreds of these albums from round the world! If you have any entries to add to the list or additions/corrections to existing entries, please let me know! Please note I cannot value your Dylan rarities - see the Mission page for reasons why. Contact the dealers on my Trading page for assistance!
Revised 16 September, 2024.

|
This French collection of Dylan covers compiled by musician/composer Béatrice
Ardisson contains a Dylan track called "Apothecary" (also listed in some
sources as "Animals, Birds And Cigarettes") which is Bob's rap
outside the pet shop from the 2005 Martin Scorsese No Direction Home
documentary (see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 3). As
this is a Dylan rarity, full details are in 2009. The download and CD versions differ in that three tracks are available for download only, whereas several tracks such as A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall by Bryan Ferry are on the CD version only. The three download-only tracks were later released on a bonus disc included with the commercial CD release. Bob's contribution is Lay, Lady, Lay from Nashville Skyline on CD3, despite the fact it dates from 1969! Just Like A Woman by The Byrds is on CD1 - this is of course a 1966 song, but the recording by The Byrds is from 1970, an out-take from their Untitled album with Jackson Browne on piano that finally appeared in 1990 on Final Approach, CD4 of the Columbia 4CD boxed set The Byrds. As this set also contains a Dylan rarity, full details are in 1990. |

CBS CBSR029 (USA) - CD |
This out-take was originally released on Grandes De La Música: Mitos* Del Rock [Great Figures Of Music: Legends of Rock], a compilation CD given away in 1995 with an issue of "Diário de Noticias [News Diary]", a Spanish newspaper. For more details see Questionable Releases.
*The distinction between “myth” and “legend” made in English isn’t made in other European languages – they’re both types of traditional stories, but basically a “myth” is a story that was never actually true, whereas a “legend” is a story that is based on true events or people. This means an “urban legend” should actually be called an “urban myth”, while Bob’s certainly a legend and definitely not a myth!
The performance on this official album has been professionally remixed and remastered. The song was included in the episode of NCIS broadcast by CBS in the USA on 3 Nov 2009 (Season 7, episode 6 "Outlaws and In-laws"), for the DVD release see VHS & DVD 2000s Part 4. The remaining tracks from this soundtrack album will be placed in NCIS episodes throughout the current season, which ends in May 2010.
The front insert is a single three fold sheet. This release is on CBS Records rather than Columbia because the source is a CBS TV series. For the Hawaii Five-O CBS TV series soundtrack with another Dylan rarity, see 2011. Despite the fact it's from the 1960s, this song turned up again on an Open Records download-only album I Feel Good: 70s Hits in 2012.
For the first compilation in this series from Feb 2009 with Things Have Changed from the Wonder Boys film soundtrack and The Essential Bob Dylan, see above.

Bob performed two Woody Guthrie songs, Vigilante Man and Do Re Mi, for inclusion in a documentary film project called "The People Speak" to be broadcast on the History Channel in the USA on 13 Dec 2009. The documentary was inspired by two books: "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn (1980, revised edition 2003) and "Voices of A People's History of the United States", edited by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove (2004). Apparently only Do Re Mi is included in the broadcast, but Vigilante Man may be included in one of a number of supplementary videos which will be made available online. Amazon lists a DVD of “The People Speak” to be released by A&E Home Video on 26 Jan 2010 - more information will be added when available.
